Osteopathy is a well established system of health care to maximise integral structure and function of muscles, joints, ligaments, nerves, connective tissue and sometimes organs.

Helping you function better by identifying weaknesses in the mechanics of movement and delivering treatment including massage, joint manipulation, mobilisation, dry needling, postural advice, exercise programmes and breathing exercises. Primarily we will perform a comprehensive physical assessment to gain information for why you are experiencing pain and discomfort. Our individualized physical assessment will guide us to develop the best suited osteopathic treatment for your needs. All treatment is hands-on and is performed with professional care.

What Happens When You See An Osteopath?

The first time you visit one of the Osteopaths at Foundation Health (located in Ballina, in The Northern Rivers), we go through a detailed case history relating to your presenting complaint, a medical examination and discuss previous injuries / accidents and surgeries.

The client interview is important to gain a comprehensive view of the issue at hand. From here the Osteopath uses their highly trained Hand through palpation to gain information about mobility of the human body.

This manual diagnosis involves a physical assessment, orthopaedic and neurological examination to determine if pathology is considered. The physical assessment will aim to detect joint mobility, asymmetry of the spine, muscle tone or tenderness, muscle strength and balance all through manual palpation to help determine the root cause of the problem.

The Osteopath will assess the patient symptomatology and results from the physical examination and discuss our findings with the client and let you know what we feel is causing your pain, advise whether treatment is appropriate and what we recommend you do from here.

A typical treatment with your osteopath at Foundation Health (located in Ballina, in The Northern Rivers), will aim to decrease pain and stiffness and improve your overall function and wellbeing.

The Osteopath will use a variety of hands on techniques including soft tissue techniques, manipulation, cranial techniques and gentle balancing and fascial techniques.

The Osteopath will also offer postural or ergonomic advice on what to avoid to reduce the likelihood of re injury, and will include strength or stretch exercises to help aid your recovery.
