Muscle Tension

Muscle Tension is a condition of continuous contraction or strain experienced by the muscles, often associated with physiological stress, overuse, or neuromuscular disorders. This involuntary muscle tightness can lead to discomfort, stiffness, and pain in affected areas, significantly impeding mobility and affecting quality of life.

Manifesting as localized or whole-body symptoms, muscle tension often results from prolonged physical activity, poor posture, psychological stressors or underlying health conditions. The body’s natural response to stress or danger – the fight-or-flight response – can trigger it by prompting muscles to tighten protectively.

Commonly targeted via therapeutic interventions such as massage therapy, progressive muscle relaxation techniques and medication. In some cases where the root cause is a neurological disorder like dystonia or Parkinson’s disease, specialized treatments may be necessary.
