Dry Needling

Dry Needling is a therapeutic technique that involves inserting fine, solid filiform needles into the skin to target myofascial trigger points. These trigger points are hyperirritable spots in skeletal muscle that are associated with palpable nodules in tight bands of muscle fibers. The goal is to release muscle tightness, reduce pain, and restore function by inducing a localized twitch response, which disrupts the contracted sarcomeres and improves blood flow to the area.

Dry Needling operates on the principle of stimulating sensory nerves to prompt a healing response within the affected tissues. It is commonly used in physical therapy, sports medicine, and pain management to treat musculoskeletal pain, including conditions such as chronic tension, fibromyalgia, and referred pain patterns. Unlike acupuncture, which is rooted in traditional Chinese medicine, dry needling is based on modern Western medicine’s understanding of anatomy, neurophysiology, and pain mechanisms.
